First Day of Class!

Hello all,

Welcome to EDEC895. This class provides you with an opportunity to examine the process standards in ECE math and science through the roles of the teacher and the student. Also, it gives you an opportunity to examine the current literature base for ECE math and science to gain a comprehensive understanding of how methods and content formed for teaching in these areas. This is not a methods course for teaching math and science- we will spend most of our time analyzing research literature and current pedagogical practices. You will also have an opportunity to explore a self-selected topic related to early childhood math and science at a deeper level.

You will be posting to your blog every week. Your blog is a forum for asking questions, making conjectures, and stating opinions about class topics and readings. I will post reflection questions for you to address each week- but feel free to extend your blog to meet your own needs. I will be checking your blogs weekly prior to our class meeting.

Reflection questions: Week 1

Your assignment for this week was to read the Brownell article and Chapters one and two in your textbook.

How does Brownell inform your current understanding of what it means to teach mathematics?

What is your definition of teaching through inquiry?
